Athens Python Meetup Returns on March 26 at Yodeck Offices

The next Athens Python Meetup is taking place on Thursday, March 26 at 19:00, hosted at the Yodeck offices in Omonia.

This meetup is part of the broader ecosystem that connects companies like Starttech, Yodeck, Epignosis, and others around a shared interest in building, experimenting, and staying close to the local tech community.

The evening’s talk will be presented by Giorgos Kargiotakis:

Building divemap.gr: Deep Diving into Python Web Development & AI

The presentation will explore the development of divemap.gr, a platform built for scuba diving enthusiasts, and the technical decisions behind turning it from a personal project into a production-ready application.

Topics will include:

  • backend architecture with FastAPI and SQLAlchemy
  • handling spatial data in MySQL
  • building a high-precision dive physics engine
  • securing chat with envelope encryption
  • using real-time weather data to generate dive safety recommendations
  • integrating AI features, including an LLM-powered chatbot and automated newsletter parsing

The talk will also cover frontend challenges with React and OpenLayers, along with the infrastructure behind the app: containerized deployment on Fly.io, serverless workflows on AWS, and Cloudflare services managed through Terraform, with a strong focus on keeping operational costs low.

It’s the kind of session that sits right at the intersection of Python, product building, infrastructure, and applied AI.

After the presentation, the usual networking session will follow.

See you there.
