About the author
Iakovos A. Vassalos was born in Sifnos in 1938. He studied Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and continued his postgraduate studies in Canada and the United States. In 1969, he earned his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), followed by a Master in Management from Northwestern University in 1976.
He worked for ten years at a U.S. research center and served as Professor at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 1979 to 2005. He was a key contributor to the establishment of the Institute of Chemical Process Engineering, the Thessaloniki Technology Park, and the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), where he also served as its first President. His work in applied catalysis has received international recognition.
